The global business travel industry and in-person events continue to build momentum as evidenced by the robust attendance, critical insights and attendee engagement at GBTA Convention 2023 at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas.

The industry came together to connect, learn, grow, and discover, with more than 5,200 registered attendees from 58 countries, over 1,100 travel buyers from 600+ buyer companies, and over 300 exhibitors. The evolution and state of the global business travel industry, future of work, sustainability, and diversity, equity and inclusion were just some of the prominent topics as the industry continues to move forward in a post-pandemic world.

Europeans Putting the G in GBTA at Convention

For the first time since GBTA was founded in 1968, we proudly announce our very first non-US President, Mark Cuschieri. Mark who, like all Board Members, was elected by GBTA’s global membership previously served as Chair of ITM; Chair of the GBTA Europe Advisory Board and Vice President of GBTA.

Carol Fergus has also been appointed to the global board, securing the esteemed position of Director-at-Large. This appointment marks a resounding commitment to ensuring GBTA continues to be the voice of the business travel industry across the globe, advocating and representing all regions.

And our warmest congratulations also go to Ben Park, Executive Director, Travel and Sustainability, at Parexel International and Chair of the GBTA Europe Advisory Board, who has earned the prestigious GBTA Direct Member of the Year Award. This award recognises a travel buyer member whose unwavering dedication and efforts have had a significantly positive impact on both the association and the travel management industry. GBTA Academy at a Glance

The GBTA Sustainable Travel Management addresses the challenges and opportunities organisations face when looking to launch or advance their sustainable travel management program. This online education program starts in September and full scholarships are available for application.

The Advanced Principles of Business Travel Management™ course builds off of the Fundamentals curriculum to aid business travel professionals in increasing their knowledge of the industry, while also expanding on their professional skills. This online course starts on October 5. (*Note it is not a requirement to complete the Fundamentals course prior).

Certificate in Corporate Travel Execution (CCTE) delivered in partnership with Cornell University is ideal for travel professionals seeking to advance their knowledge in travel and business best practices. This online education program starts in September.

Europe Releases Standards for Sustainability Reporting

What happened: Recently, the EU adopted new Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) to make corporate sustainability reporting within the EU more accurate, comparable, and standardized.

Why it matters: The standards require all companies with 250+ employees operating in the EU to report their scope 3 emissions – including their business travel emissions.
